Breakthrough: Why Boundaries Matter
A childlike curiosity led Dawn Zimmerman to pursue journalism and serve as a reporter and editor before founding her own strategic communications company. She started The Write Advantage Inc. on the belief that everyone has a story to tell. This award-winning journalist turn communications strategist is a natural storyteller known for her ability to help organizations shape and share their stories in meaningful ways.
Dawn earned a bachelor’s in journalism from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, and worked on the street and in leadership positions for various media, such as KSTP, Gannett, and Forum Communications. She became an editor for Gannett at the Times Media at age 25 and earned Minnesota Journalist of the Year from the Small Business Administration for her contributions to the business community less than two years later.
Today, she combines a commitment to communicating an organization's value with strategic business planning to offer a variety of signature storytelling services at The Write Advantage. Dawn’s quick-start marketing and communication strategies have helped effectively launch start-ups and accelerated growth in mature organizations. Her professional and community work earned her the 5 under 40 award in 2013, an honor given annually to the top 5 Greater St. Cloud Area business leaders.
Dawn is a frequent speaker and trainer on effective communications and social media and sought-out author. She has published books for clients on business, leadership, life and family.
Dawn is still totally in love with her husband. They have two life-loving young children who remind them every day what’s most important. In her free time, Dawn enjoys spending time on a lake, hiking, playing catch with her kids and winning in beanbag toss.
